What is Chinese Blooming Tea?
It’s a tightly woven bundle or bud made from dried green, white, or red tea leaves. Fragrant flowers like jasmine, camellia, peony, rose, chrysanthemum, or calendula are artfully tied inside. Each one is crafted by hand by skilled Chinese artisans (a single bundle takes up to 10 minutes). They come in shapes like balls, rings, hearts, lanterns, fish, or even dragons. The more complex the design, the higher the price. One or several flowers can be hidden inside.
The tea leaves are harvested during the rainy season and processed the same day: fermented, twisted, and dried. They must be soft and flexible enough to be tied with silk or cotton thread. Final bundles weigh between 6 and 10 grams.
