Dong Fang Mei Ren, or "Oriental Beauty", is a rare Taiwanese oolong with an exceptional processing method. Its unique aroma is created thanks to a unique technology: **young leaves are specially damaged by a leafhopper**, which activates the fermentation processes while still on the bush. As a result, the tea acquires a honey-fruity aroma with nutmeg notes , without adding any flavorings.
The taste is sweet, honey-like, with notes of ripe fruit, white wine, muscat, and flowers. The aroma is wine-like, deep, and refined. The infusion is light amber, sparkling, and warm.
Manufacturing technology is the secret to cicada bites
The real “Oriental Beauty” is produced only in certain regions of Taiwan. During the harvesting period, the leaves are processed by the Jacobiasca formosana cicada, an insect that bites into the leaf tissue. This stimulates the plant’s defenses and natural fermentation before harvesting. The leaves are then rolled and fermented to a level of 60–70%. It is thanks to this technology that the tea has such a sweet, wine-like taste and does not contain bitterness.

How to brew Dong Fang Mei Ren?
Gongfu Cha Method:
- 5–6 g of tea per 100 ml of gaiwan
- Rinse with hot water — 2 seconds
- Water temperature — 85–90°C
- First flush — 10–15 seconds, then increase
